Flashback to 2008 when the famed event in Venice, Abbot Kinney First Fridays (aka Abbot Kinney First Friday, Abbot Kinney 1st Fridays0 – you get the picture, was in it’s infancy and ONLY a handful of peeps attended the monthly event on Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice, CA. It’s hard to believe, but true.
Step in local Venice Resident and Website Designer, Janet Gervers, Founder + Creative Director of JAGmedia. She launched the blog that skyrocketed the event to fame!
After conversations with store owners that desperately needed to increase attendance at the local event, that was later dubbed, “Coolest Boulevard in America, by GQ Magazine, Janet stepped up to the plate.
She decided to creeate a blog website that promoted the event and the businesses on Abbot Kinney. Within a few short months the blog was Page 1 Google (and it was for years) and paved the way for Los Angeles residents and visitors to find out about the monthly First Friday event.
And they did – before the food trucks were a regular part of the event, which happened during 2009. Long story short, First Fridays Venice (yet another local name for it) became wildly successful. Foodies loved it, everone loved it and kept coming back for more tasty food each mnth and also loved the coverage in the blog, commonly referred to as the AKFF Blog. Food trucks, special events and photos of the crowds, food and the celebs were all part of the scene and in the blog. News Flash: This is the landing spot for the blog. After 15 years of blogging about Abbot Kinney First Fridays and food trucks across the LA area and beyond, the blog has gone way beyond what it was set out to do. The event has reached its pinnacle, now it’s time to move on. By the way, that was in addition to Venice community event coverage, Silicon Beach and the whole tech scene, art, music and film were some of the vast number of topics written about over the years.
